Words of Wisdom: Alumni Career Interview with Diana Andronic
From an undergraduate experience out at sea to working in the energy industry, Diana Andronic’s journey demonstrates how the Massachusetts Maritime Academy prepares graduates to lead in complex, highly technical environments. After earning her bachelor’s degree in international maritime business in 2024 and her Master of Science in Facilities Management in 2025, Diana launched her career as an Environmental, Health, and Safety Compliance Coordinator at a natural gas-fired combined-cycle power plant. Her story reflects the value of combining hands-on learning, industry experience, and graduate education to build confidence and create new career opportunities.
Building a Strong Foundation
Before pursuing her master’s degree, Diana completed her undergraduate studies at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. One experience, in particular, had a lasting impact on her professional development.
“Participating in Seaterm was one of the most impactful educational opportunities I had, as it provided me with firsthand experience of ship operations as well as learning about the deck and engine side practices that are essential for maintaining safe, efficient, and successful operations.”
Those experiences provided a strong technical foundation that prepared Diana for graduate-level study and helped shape the practical problem-solving skills she uses every day in her career.
Applying Knowledge to the Real World
After earning her Master of Science in Facilities Management in 2025, Diana accepted a position as an Environmental, Health, and Safety Compliance Coordinator. In this role, she helps ensure operational safety, regulatory compliance, and environmental stewardship in a fast-paced power generation environment.
What did you enjoy most about the program?
“The program allowed me to expand upon the foundation I built during my undergraduate years and apply that knowledge in a much more intensive and practical way. One of the greatest benefits from the program is the balance of academic diligence with real-world application, which truly prepares you for leadership roles in demanding industries.”
That combination of classroom instruction and applied learning is a hallmark of Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s graduate programs.
How has the Massachusetts Maritime Academy prepared you for your career?
“Working at a power plant as a woman in a very competitive industry and having my bachelor’s and master’s degree from Mass Maritime has truly helped me get to where I am, and to become more confident in this intense industry. The academy has provided me with so many resources and hands-on learning (moments) that challenged me, but ended up being so rewarding once I graduated.”
What advice would you give to current or future students considering a master’s degree at Mass. Maritime?
“My advice to current and future students is to take full advantage of the resources the academy provides: in and out of the classroom (experience), networking opportunities, and the hands-on aspect that simulates real challenges you will face in your career.”
